We write to oppose your response to the graduation speech of Logan Rozos. Logan Rozos spoke with clarity and courage to the moral crisis that defined the college experience of his graduating cohort. In contrast, the response of the NYU and Gallatin administration has been an insult and injury to the stellar academic achievements that earned Logan Rozos the honor of Gallatin Student speaker, and the integrity he evinced in his speech. By withholding Logan Rozos’ diploma because the NYU administration disagreed with his speech you fundamentally undermined the academic integrity of the NYU degree, and violated the most basic principles of academic freedom. We call on NYU to publicly apologize to Logan and the NYU community for making the NYU degree contingent on ideological compliance with the NYU administration; further, we call on you to immediately suspend the disciplinary proceedings you activated as a response to his speech.
Sincerely, NYU AAUP Executive Committee
